Students at Episcopal School of Jacksonville’s St. Mark’s Campus recently participated in off-campus learning experiences designed to reinforce and extend classroom instruction.
Second grade students traveled to the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens after preparing in advance during art class. In the weeks leading up to the visit, students studied the elements of art and explored select works on display at the museum. When they arrived, they were able to apply their classroom knowledge in real time, analyzing color, line, texture, and composition while discussing the meaning and technique behind various pieces. Students especially enjoyed the museum’s annual Art in Bloom exhibition and the historic riverfront gardens, where art and nature intersect.
Kindergarten students also extended their classroom learning into the community by visiting WJXT Channel 4. As part of their study of community helpers, students toured the newsroom and control room to see firsthand how a broadcast comes together. They even had the opportunity to try their hand at using a green screen. The tour was led by ESJ alumna Jennifer Waugh, who offered students an engaging look at careers in journalism and broadcast media.
Through these experiences, St. Mark’s students connected classroom lessons with real-world applications, bringing their studies to life in meaningful and memorable ways.
