Football – Varsity

The Episcopal Football Program fields Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Middle School teams, competing on Pajcic-Hunt Field at Jangro Stadium. The program is committed to developing young men of character while competing at a high level — building disciplined, accountable, and resilient student-athletes who represent Episcopal with pride on and off the field.

That commitment shows in competition. The Eagles have qualified for the state playoffs in six of the last seven seasons, with postseason appearances in 2016, 2019 through 2023, and 2025, and have helped numerous players continue their football careers at the collegiate level.

More than wins, the program strives to instill a strong work ethic in every player and to make Friday nights memorable for the entire Episcopal community.

Marcus Wells ’90

Program Director and Head Varsity Football Coach

Marcus Wells, a member of Episcopal’s Class of 1990, is entering his sixth season as head coach. He has served on the ESJ football coaching staff for more than thirteen years, including as associate head coach and defensive coordinator, and has been an integral part of the program’s winning culture and its recent playoff runs.

Coach Wells began his coaching career 20 years ago at Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, Florida. As an ESJ student-athlete, he excelled in the classroom and on the gridiron, leading the team in touchdowns, rushing yards, and yards from scrimmage in both his junior and senior seasons while setting several school records. He went on to play college football at Cornell University before graduating from the University of Florida.
