Cross Country – Girls – Upper School

The Episcopal Girls Cross Country program includes athletes from sixth through twelfth grades on the Munnerlyn Campus. Over the years, the teams have established themselves as consistent contenders in the top 20 in the state, including five State Championships since 2000.

The program has posted its strongest results in recent seasons, with top-3 finishes at the FHSAA State Championship in 2023, 2024, and 2025, along with individual runners placing in the state’s top 15 in each of the last three years. The Eagles have also earned a top-10 finish at the Nike Southeast Regional.

The program is guided by three core values — Heart, Grit, Family — which are woven into team traditions like the Big Sis/Little Sis mentorship program, team tally nights, and an annual team retreat that build connection, accountability, and a shared sense of purpose.

Stacy Brunell

Program Director and Head Girls Cross Country Coach

Stacy Brunell is in her 13th season with Episcopal’s Girls Cross Country program and also serves as Program Director for Boys and Girls Track. A University of Washington alumna with a degree in Speech Communication, she distinguished herself as a cross country and track athlete, earning Most Inspirational honors and becoming a Pac-10 finalist.

Under her leadership, the Eagles have qualified for the state meet every year. The team recorded top-three state finishes in 2023, 2024, and 2025, with individual runners placing in the state’s top 15 in each of those seasons. The program has also earned a top-10 finish at the Nike Southeast Regional.

Coach Brunell’s philosophy reflects her belief that cross country is about far more than running fast: every workout and race offers an opportunity to build resilience, connection, and personal growth. Her dedication has been recognized with the John Ryan Award for Excellence in Coaching and the Senior Choice Award.

Off the course, she is a proud mother of four and a grandmother.
