Basketball (Boys) – Varsity

Boys Basketball consists of six Middle School teams, a Freshmen team, a Junior Varsity team, and a Varsity team. The Varsity team reached the regional finals last year, has made the regional playoffs the last three seasons, and has consistently been ranked in the top 10 in 3A the last three seasons as well. The Basketball program is building a winning tradition under the direction of Head Basketball Coach Chip Stroud, who is in his fourteenth season leading the Eagles. The program practices and competes in the Semmes Gym and Alumni Gym. Additionally, the school fields boys’ basketball teams at the Beaches and St. Mark’s Campuses beginning in the third grade.

Chip Stroud

Chip Stroud has been coaching basketball for 20 years. He has coached the Boys Varsity team for the last 13 years at Episcopal. Coach Stroud won the John Ryan Award for Excellence in Coaching in 2015 and the Senior Choice Award in 2023. In 2017 Coach Stroud was an assistant coach for the McDonald’s All-American game in Chicago. He helped coach half of the nation’s top 24 players. Prior to coming to ESJ, Coach Stroud served as the associate head coach at Providence School where he won a state championship and coached numerous college basketball players and future NBA players including Duke’s Grayson Allen and Florida’s Patric Young. Prior to that, Coach Stroud served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Valdosta State. As a player at Valdosta State, Coach Stroud played in two NCAA Tournaments. His wife, Bridgett Stroud, is the Learning Specialist at the St. Mark’s Campus and they have two children, Lauren ‘33 and McKenzie ‘35. Please reach out to Coach Stroud at stroudc@esj.org
