Nick James

Nick James has been a high school head coach and English teacher for more than 20 years. The 2024-2025 school year will be his second season at Episcopal. Coach James and his staff had quite a successful inaugural season in 2023-2024, finishing the year 19-9, with a runner-up finish in Districts as well as making an regional appearance. Prior to ESJ, Coach James was the head coach at Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale, FL from 2009-2019. His tenure included multiple regional appearances, and he left Westminster as the winningest coach in program history. In 2017 he was named the National Christian High School Baseball Coach of the Year. In the off-season coach James runs the highly successful CBU club organization, which has placed over 200 players into collegiate baseball and has had seven major league draft picks since 2020. Coach James is also the Florida DIrector for USA BASEBALL and has worked with the USA NATIONAL TEAMS at the 12U and 15U levels at the USA COMPLEX in Cary, NC. Coach James and his wife Erin have two children enrolled at Episcopal, Jaxon and Lila. Please reach out to Coach James at jamesn@esj.org

Coach James received his Bachelor of Arts in English from James Madison University where he was a three-time all-conference scholar-athlete for their baseball team. He went on to earn his master’s degree from Jacksonville University. Coach James takes over from Coach Mike Jones, the longest tenured Head Coach in the baseball program’s history, who finished his career with 322 wins. His teams advanced to the FHSAA regional playoffs 14 times, won six district championships, won one regional championship, and won the state championship in 2006. Additionally, under Coach Jones’ leadership, 50 of his student-athletes went on to play at the collegiate level, and five went on to sign professional contracts.  While Coach Jones will no longer be leading the baseball program, we are pleased that he will stay on the coaching staff as a pitching coach with the Eagles.
