Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, Episcopal’s Middle and Upper School communities celebrated the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic communities through opportunities for learning, connection, and celebration.
Organized by ESJ’s Spanish teachers and the Hispanic Student Union, the month’s activities invited students and faculty to explore Hispanic heritage both inside and outside the classroom.
The celebration began with Hispanic Heritage Spirit Day on September 18, when students and faculty wore T-shirts and jerseys representing Hispanic countries. The day brought color and school spirit to campus while recognizing the many cultures represented throughout the Hispanic world.
As the month continued, students had opportunities to make connections across cultures and disciplines. From literature and the arts to traditions and cultural celebrations, Hispanic Heritage Month offered meaningful ways to explore new perspectives and deepen students’ understanding of the world around them.
The month concluded with a series of activities on October 12 and 13. Students explored displays of Hispanic artifacts, decorations, and student projects outside Spanish classrooms and attended a presentation by Sra. Plaski on El Día de la Raza.
The following day, the celebration continued with Hispanic cuisine prepared by SAGE and a lively Zumba lesson on the Flag Plaza led by Mayra Fernández of F13RCE Elite Training in Ponte Vedra. Students came together to enjoy the food, music, movement, and energy of the celebration, bringing the month to a memorable close.
Through these experiences, Hispanic Heritage Month offered the Episcopal community an opportunity to celebrate cultural traditions, learn from one another, and appreciate the many ways different cultures enrich our shared community.
