Children at Camp Create had an exciting time this past week and a half as they embraced the outdoors through the camp’s “Nature Explorers” theme. Each day was filled with hands-on, age-appropriate activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity while helping campers connect with the natural world around them.
Campers made bird feeders, planted grass seeds to grow into “hair” on face planters (pictured), and created colorful sun catchers using items found in nature. Younger students explored textures and patterns while painting with pine straw, while older campers recorded their outdoor observations in handmade nature journals. A nature hunt encouraged campers to gather leaves, sticks, and other natural materials to contribute to a shared sensory bin, combining exploration with play.
To wrap up the theme, students will enjoy a visit from Stephanie Cornais, Environmental and Earth Space Science Instructor at the Munnerlyn Campus, this Friday. She will be joined by a special guest, who is an ornithologist! Together, they will introduce campers to some of the pollinator plants found on Episcopal’s campus and share interesting facts about birds native to Jacksonville.
The “Nature Explorers” theme has provided a memorable experience that encouraged students to get outside, get curious, and appreciate the beauty and variety of the world around them.
