Author Victoria Piontek Inspires Lower School Students with Personal Story and Writing Journey

Victoria Piontek, author of “Better With Butter,” visited fourth and fifth grade students at both Lower School campuses last week. “Better With Butter,” summer reading for fourth and fifth grade students, tells the story of a twelve-year-old girl dealing with anxiety and the transformative impact of a fainting goat named Butter.

During her visit, Piontek shared her personal experience with anxiety and learning challenges, including her early difficulties with reading and the role a supportive teacher played in her development. She also discussed the writing process, emphasizing the significance of outlining and rewriting to produce a polished final draft.

“Better With Butter” has received numerous accolades, including the Florida Sunshine State Young Readers Award, the Iowa Reader’s Choice Award, the New Hampshire State Reader’s Choice Award, and recognition as a Golden Kite Finalist and Bank Street College Best Book of the Year. As an educational therapist and advocate, Piontek supports students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, anxiety, perfectionism, and ADHD, helping them discover their voice and passion for writing. Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Piontek now resides in California with her family and their fluffy dog, though she continues to cherish her Florida roots.
