Alex Maples Awarded Timothy Award for Christian Service

Alex Maples, recipient of the 2026 Timothy Award, is celebrated not only for exceptional teaching but for a life of faith-filled service that deeply impacts the campus community. The award recognizes educators who embody Christian character in both word and action, and colleagues describe Mrs. Maples, Spiritual Life and Service Coordinator and faculty for Theology and Psychology, as a shining example of that mission.

Students, faculty, and staff consistently praised Mrs. Maples for creating a welcoming and supportive environment where people feel valued and heard. One colleague noted the “genuine warmth” that remains with anyone who spends time with Mrs. Maples, while others highlighted a willingness to engage in meaningful and sometimes difficult conversations with compassion and integrity.

Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Maples is known for servant leadership and steadfast faith. Peers described someone who quietly leads with humility, bringing “light, compassion, and integrity into every space.” Rather than seeking recognition, Mrs. Maples consistently demonstrates care for others through daily interactions and advocacy for the dignity of every person.

What stood out most in the nomination materials was the consistency between belief and action. Colleagues emphasized that Mrs. Maples’ Christian faith is not merely personal, but visibly reflected in relationships with students and the broader community. Through encouragement, mentorship, and authentic care, Mrs. Maples has become a source of inspiration to many.

The Timothy Award is presented in loving memory of T.S. Roberts, Jr. and given by his family. The Timothy Award is presented annually to a faculty member who exemplifies the ideal of Christian service to students and to the community. This award recognizes the service of the individual and the importance of a vital Christian faith in the daily life of Episcopal School of Jacksonville. Faculty members are invited to nominate colleagues for this honor.
