Ashton Body '20 Presents at Mayo Clinic Symposium

Junior Ashton Body had the honor of presenting her scientific research abstract at the eighth Mayo Clinic Symposium on Tumor Microenvironment and Cancer Therapeutics December 9-10. Ashton worked throughout the summer and into the school year at the Mayo Clinic to develop skills in laboratory techniques, to gain medical knowledge, and to conduct her own investigation of a targeted drug delivery system for drug-resistant cancer cells.

“At the conference, I listened to people from around the country give presentations about their lab’s new data about tumor biology and the microenvironment with clinical applications.  It was such an exciting and amazing opportunity and I learned so much!” said Ashton.

As a student in the Honors Science Seminar at Episcopal for two years, Ashton is working under the mentorship of Mayo researcher Debabrata Mukhopadhyay, Ph.D. While experimentation continues, Ashton will be competing in high school science competitions in the coming months, starting with the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at the University of Florida in January.
