College Counseling Visits Washington State

Associate Director of College Counseling Andrea Rizzi recently returned from a trip to Washington state where she visited and met with admissions officers at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma and the University of Washington in Seattle.

Puget Sound is a small, liberal arts college with 2,500 students — 85% are out-of-state. “The campus is stunningly beautiful,” said Rizzi. “It is reminiscent of a college in New England with the most perfectly manicured grounds, in one of the most idyllic settings.”

Students are actively engaged in research and the school offers 55 different majors, an honors program, and 23 varsity athletics programs.

“More than 50 percent of its students study abroad each year and they offer a year-long Pacific-Rim trip every other year. The students were engaging, confident, active and down-to-earth,” shared Mrs. Rizzi.

The University of Washington has has an interdisciplinary honors program and offers merit scholarships for out-of-state students. “On a clear day students have an incredible view of Mt. Rainier. The Suzzallo Graduate Library has picturesque stained glass windows and one of the most inviting reading rooms. The building, which looks like a church, was originally designed as a ‘cathedral of knowledge,’ said Mrs. Rizzi.
