The girls’ and boys’ swim teams made their 2017 debut yesterday with wins against Bishop Kenny. The girls won 147-137.
First place finishers for the girls included Allie Alton in the 200m freestyle, Kathleen Kowkabany in the 200m individual medley, Courtney Crawford in the 100m fly, and Ashley Gunter in the 500m freestyle.
The boys defeated Bishop Kenny 196-88. Finishing first for the boys included Cole Crane in the 100m fly and 100m backstroke, Jace Crawford in the 200 individual medley and 500m freestyle, Reed Bankston in the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle, Caden Staggard in the 200m freestyle, and Nathaniel Jones in the 100m breaststroke.
Coach Zubero is excited about the direction of the swim program. “We have two young squads this year with the girls’ team averaging at 8th grade and the boys’ team averaging to 9th grade. Our boys’ team should be one of the strongest in the state entering the state championships in November,” said Coach Zubero. The swim teams are back in the pool on Friday as they host Berkeley Prep at the Elizabeth S. Walton ’71 Aquatic Center. Start time is set for 5:00 p.m.
