Seniors attended Application Kick-off sessions in August to ensure a smooth start to the application season and senior year and have each met with their College Counselor to refine their college lists, review their essays, and discuss options for applications such as Early Decision.
Juniors heard from the College Counselors during “What Matters Most,” on August 30, to help them thoughtfully approach the coming year. College Counselors visited Freshman Seminar this week to give freshmen valuable perspective and advice on seeking meaningful engagement in all aspects of high school.
College Counseling hosted “A Healthier Approach to College Admissions,” an informative workshop for junior and senior students and parents of all grade levels, on September 9. Guest speaker Jon Kleiman from Challenge Success presented meaningful insights and perspectives to help families reframe what success truly means in this process. Participants learned research-based findings regarding the relationship between college selectivity and future outcomes (including learning, earnings, and well-being) and gained insights about the value and importance of engagement in high school and college.
On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, ESJ College Counseling provided parents of ninth through eleventh graders with a critical and timely webinar, “What Every Parent Needs to Know Now About Paying Less for College.” The webinar, presented by SMARTTRACK, encouraged parents to think strategically about how to best cover—and reduce—their share of college costs, regardless of income or assets. Participants learned why some families vastly overpay for college, while others increase their eligibility for grants, scholarships, and aid—regardless of income or assets—by tens of thousands of dollars per year.
