Task Parties Create Opportunity for Creativity and Ingenuity in the Art Room

Twice a year, before Christmas and the last day of school, students in first through sixth grades put their ingenuity and creativity to the test with a “task party” during art class. After a random drawing of their “task,” students are given 45 minutes to create their task out of any materials they can find in the art room, including cardboard boxes, tin cans, empty paint bottles, and “junk” teacher Mrs. Bebe Alexander has collected throughout the semester. This year, tasks included building marble slides, bows and arrows, balloon-powered vehicles, a pet for someone allergic to animals, and musical instruments.
