New Softball Facility Named in Honor of Farley Callaghan
Episcopal thanks the Callaghan family for their Lead the Way campaign contribution in support of the softball program. Charles and Rushton Haskell Callaghan ’82 named the new softball facility in honor of their daughter Farley, who attended Episcopal as a member of the Class of 2017. Farley played softball at Episcopal and now plays for Florida Gulf Coast. The family belongs to the 1966 Society and the 50 by Fifty Society, and are longtime leadership donors. Rushton served on the Alumni Board and was named Alumna of the Year in 2017. The new facility includes several updates.
The softball training facility has a batting cage that includes four hitting tunnels (which can be divided into eight shorter tunnels). Nets can also be pulled back to allow for one large covered area for defensive work (pitching and fielding). Four soft toss/tee stations and two bullpen areas were installed as well. The area behind the training/batting cage is being leveled so that three additional bullpen stations and an infield area can be used for pitchers and infielders.
“This covered training facility not only allows for multiple teams to practice at the same time, but it also allows our players to stay out of the heat and for us to get invaluable practice time even when our field is unusable due to weather. We are so grateful!!” said Kasse Eppley, Assistant Athletic Director, and Softball Program Director.
