
Honors Science Students Win at State Competition
Eight students from the Honors Science Seminar earned cash prizes and place awards in the categories of Animal Science, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Plant Sciences at the state science fair last week, where more than 850 students from public and private schools from Florida competed. Participants included Jake Barker ’22, Sally Barksdale ’21, Ashton Body ’20, Julia Downes ’19, Spencer Huie ’20, Julia Kagiliery ’21, Cole Nigro ’21, and Kaya Olszewski ’21. In addition, Ashton, who is conducting her research at the Mayo Clinic on nanoparticle drug delivery, was the recipient of an $8,000 four-year scholarship at the New College of Florida. She was also selected to present her project at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, May 12-17. Julia, who conducted her research on motor oil phytoremediation at Texas Tech, was the recipient of a $150 award from the Florida Society of Environmental Analysts.
