Second Grade Explores The Cummer Museum and Memorial Park
Yesterday, April 1, second grade students had the opportunity to visit The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens. This field trip served as an extension of their weekly art instruction with Mrs. Bebe Alexander, allowing students to explore the “Elements of Art”—line, shape, color, form, value, texture, and space—through real-world masterpieces.
As they explored the museum, students engaged with various artistic styles, from traditional oil paintings to contemporary sculptures, and selected a piece of art to critique. They also toured the Gardens and child-friendly Art Connections area of the museum.
“Visiting a museum like The Cummer provides students with an invaluable experience,” said Mrs. Alexander, Art Instructor. “Seeing art in person, rather than just in textbooks or on screens, helps them connect with the creative process in a meaningful way. It sparks curiosity, broadens their perspectives, and nurtures a lifelong appreciation for the arts.”
After visiting the museum, students walked to Memorial Park, where they enjoyed lunch with Mrs. Cheryl Paganucci and Mr. Patrick Emmet, who are a part of the Memorial Park Association. They shared the park’s history and significance as a World War I memorial honoring Floridians who died in battle.
