
Three Head to International Science Fair, 13 to State Fair
Congratulations to the Episcopal science research students who recently competed in the Northeast Florida Regional Science and Engineering Fair at Jacksonville University. Alexander Chindris β25, James Steffes β26, and Caden Lipari β27 were selected to represent the region at the International Science Fair in Columbus, Ohio, where they will compete with 1,800 students from 75 different countries for $9 million in prizes, scholarships, and internships. Blaire Massey β27 was named an alternate to that prestigious event. At the Regional Fair, ESJ students were recipients of $1,900 in cash, prizes, a summer internship, and a full-tutition college scholarship. Thirteen Episcopal students were named to compete at the State Science Fair of Florida in Lakeland.
The winners include: Grace Massey β25, Alzheimerβs disease; Parthiv Reddy β25, treatment of renal cancer; Evelyn Carroll β27, increasing vitamin D levels in kale; Blaire Massey, growth of lettuce with red worms; Christian Lee β26, increasing the hardness of teeth; Alex Chindris and James Steffes, wide-area object identification with drones; Elizabeth Butterfield β25, predicting mangrove locations; Caden Lipari, heat adaptation of coral; Payton Marousky β25, antibiotic-resistant bacteria; Alice Largen β25, antibacterial cleaners; Lilly McCoy β26, magnet treatments for seizures; Trey Morales β26, regeneration of Planaria; Chase McCoy β27, reflected light on plants; Elina Tursonoff β26, excess fluoride; Lorenzo Montford Conway β27, sunscreen on coral; and Auggie Strada β26, hydrogen-fueled engine.
