Students Experience Jacksonville’s Past with Field Trip to Historic Sites
Drew Haramis, St. Mark’s Campus’ resident Jacksonville history expert, tour guide, and third grade teacher, led students on a field trip to Avondale, Riverside, Springfield, and Downtown Jacksonville yesterday. Highlights of their adventure included visits to iconic landmarks including City Hall, The Merrill House Museum, and the Old City Cemetery. Students also saw their award-winning gingerbread house at the gingerbread exhibit hosted at Old St. Andrews Church. Their gingerbread creation, depicting the St. John’s River Ferry, won first place in the youth 12 and under category for “Best Historic Structure.”
“Sharing my passion for Jacksonville’s rich history with these curious young minds is truly a joy,” said Mrs. Haramis. “It’s a privilege to guide them through the stories and landmarks that have shaped our city, and to see their excitement as they connect the past with the present. These experiences will help them appreciate not just the architecture and landmarks, but the deeper history and culture that make Jacksonville so unique.”
