Lower School Prepares Hearts and Minds for Christmas With Lessons & Carols Services
Both Lower Schools recently held Lessons and Carols services in preparation for Christmas. The Beaches Campus fifth grade students performed The Festival of Lessons and Carols in the St. Paul’s by-the-Sea sanctuary. During the performance, the Christmas story is told through scripture readings and Christmas songs. Grades first through fourth sing a carol together and older students act out the story of Christ’s birth. This long-standing tradition helps to focus students’ hearts on the true spirit of Christmas. The St. Mark’s Campus service, held in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, showcased the musical talents of fourth and fifth grade students. Using hand chimes, recorders, ukuleles, drums, and voice, students performed songs interspersed with student-led scripture readings. This year, for the first time, fourth and fifth grade teachers joined in, playing instruments to accompany the students on one of the songs.
