Field Trips Foster Experiential Learning Beyond Classroom Walls
As the school year comes to a close, several grades recvently participated in field trips to bring their classroom learnings beyond the St. Mark’s Campus. Kindergarten students embarked on their inaugural St. Mark’s Campus field trip, where they explored the Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Gardens. First grade students, who have been delving into the realm of sea creatures, had the opportunity to witness marine beings up close. Their visit to Marineland allowed them to observe the creatures they had studied in class and also enabled them to explore the beach, fostering a deeper appreciation for coastal ecosystems. Second-grade students engaged in hands-on learning during their field trip led by the Florida Water Warriors in St. Augustine. From wildlife scouting to collecting and analyzing water samples, they actively participated in scientific inquiry, gaining firsthand insights into the local ecosystem.
“These excursions provide real-world experiences that enrich learning, foster curiosity, and deepen understanding across various subjects,” said Beville Anderson, Head of Lower School, St. Mark’s Campus. “They offer students a chance to connect classroom learning with the real world, making concepts tangible and relevant.”
