A Vision for Art’s 2024 Featured Artist Visits the St. Mark’s Campus

Renowned Impressionist artist EMYO visited ESJ, St. Mark’s Campus last week, captivating students and adults alike with her unique blend of art and storytelling.

During the day, EMYO shared her children’s book “Marisol’s Dress” with kindergarten – fifth grade students. This story follows the journey of a young girl named Marisol as she navigates her way from Cuba to the United States amidst the tumult of the Cuban revolution. Through Marisol’s tale, EMYO not only illuminated the struggles of her grandmother’s real-life escape, but also celebrated the resilience and creativity that helped her grandmother flourish in her new homeland.

After spending the day with students, adults from the ESJ community and beyond attended “An Evening With EMYO.” Participants were one of the first to have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of EMYO’s new book, “Light + Life”, and view EMYO’s original artwork.  During her address to the audience, EMYO underscored the importance of embracing art in all its forms, urging individuals to welcome creativity into their lives as a source of inspiration and solace.

EMYO will return to ESJ, St. Mark’s Campus for A Vision for Art’s Opening Night Celebration on Friday, April 19. Visit www.avisionforart.com for more information.
