Dedication Event Held for Farrell-Hayes Stands

Alumni were invited to the dedication of the Farrell-Hayes Stands in honor of soccer alums and teammates Chris Farrell ’84 and the late James Hayes ’86 on Thursday, January 17. The dedication ceremony occurred during halftime of the Varsity Boys Soccer game against Fletcher at Jangro Stadium. Many of Chris and James’ teammates were in attendance for this special occasion. ESJ was honored to also host James’ sister, Lisa Hayes Ephrem for the recognition ceremony.

“It is tradition for professional soccer organizations to name the section of seating for their most loyal fans in honor of their past great players. In recognition of Chris and James’ contributions to the Episcopal soccer program, it is with great pleasure that tonight we name the south section of spectator seating at Jangro Stadium, “The Farrell-Hayes Stands,” said Andy Kidd ’99, Director of Athletics.

Jay Bolt, Head Program Director and Head Coach, presented commemorative team jerseys with Chris and James’ respective high school numbers.

James was a four-year varsity letter winner, three-time district champion, two-time regional champion and team captain during his time at Episcopal. Following his successful high school career, James went on to play for the University of Richmond and then professionally for the Richmond Kickers.

“James was described as a great teammate and loyal friend by his coaches and teammates. We are thankful to James for his contributions to the Episcopal soccer program,” said Kidd.

As an Eagle, Chris was a team MVP, program record holder, team captain as well as a member of district and regional championship teams. Following his decorated high school career, Chris went on to play collegiately at Stetson University. After college, Chris played for the Milford Rangers and New York Athletic Club.

“As a player, Chris was known by his teammates for his passion for the game and ability to create scoring opportunities in big moments,” said Kidd. “Chris’ commitment of time, treasure, and talent to the ESJ soccer program over the last four decades has been instrumental to the program’s success. Whether it be through the organization of alumni soccer games, providing financial support, or rallying past championship teams to come together for reunions, Chris has exhibited an unwavering love for the Episcopal soccer program.”
