Chapel Buddies Provide Opportunities for Mentorship and Friendship Across Grade Levels
On Friday, January 12, kindergarten students at the St. Mark’s Campus joined first to fifth students for Chapel, marking a big step in their Christian formation journey. While still leading Pre-Primary Chapel on certain days, they are getting accustomed to the service format they’ll adopt next year thanks to the support of third grade Chapel buddies.
Third-grade students guide their kindergarten buddies to Chapel, sit with them during the service, help them navigate Chapel booklets, follow the Order of Worship, and learn new songs. They also set expectations for proper Chapel etiquette.
“Third grade students have excitedly anticipated this leadership opportunity since the start of the school year,” said Drew Haramis, third grade instructor. “Serving as Chapel buddies in third grade is a long-standing tradition, and is the first time students have had the opportunity to serve as mentors on the St. Mark’s Campus.”
Beyond Chapel, kindergarten and third grade students build connections through shared recess and snacktime, creating friendships expected to last throughout their time at St. Mark’s Campus and beyond.
