Students Shine in Nutcracker, The Musical

In a showcase of talent and Christmas spirit, first to third-grade students recently took center stage on the St. Mark’s Campus in “Nutcracker, The Musical,” arranged by Sally K. Albrecht. The enchanting performance featured a series of iconic segments, including Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies, Arabian Dance, Russian Dance, Chinese Dance, Dance of the Reed Flutes, and Waltz of the Flowers. Third grade students led the performance as speakers, The Nutcracker, Clara, Fritz, Godpapa, and Mouse King.

The success of this production was a result of collaborative, cross-curricular efforts. Lower School Dance Instructor Andrea Hagan, along with Music Instructors Susanne Daily and Jennifer Meister, played instrumental roles in preparing young sugar plums, toy soldiers, mice, and more for their roles. Teachers’ support was also crucial in coordinating rehearsals and managing logistics. Bebe Alexander, Art Instructor, and David Sandlin, Innovation Instructor, transformed the Lori Schiavone Commons through set design, lighting, and sound.

“Students left the audience smiling ear to ear,” said Beville Anderson, Head of Lower School, St. Mark’s Campus. “Bravo to everyone involved for bringing such joy and wonder to our ESJ community through their outstanding production of “The Nutcracker.”
