February HSW Program to Focus on Resilience
Episcopal’s Health, Safety, and Well-Being program in February on the Munnerlyn Campus will focus on resilience through a physical fitness challenge called DEKA FIRE. Munnerlyn Campus students heard from speakers Joe Rivera from Gett Itt Core Fitness in Jacksonville, and Dan McDonald, Chief of Staff at Spartan Races out of Orlando, last week during a special assembly. McDonald shared the news that Episcopal is partnering with Spartan for both the HSW program on February 22nd and the Spartan Races in Jacksonville the following weekend. Heading into exams he challenged all of us to “Exceed Your Quit” by taking one more step, doing one more rep, studying one more section…Exceed Your Quit! He also challenged students to exercise throughout exam week and the break, and begin to prepare their bodies and minds for the fitness-themed HSW event in February.
“All of us know students who are overwhelmed with academics, sports, band, dance, family responsibilities, college decisions, feelings, friends, and more. We know students whose schedules are overbooked and out of balance,” said Amy Burrows Perkins ’92, Director of Student Services. “It is important to remember the importance of physical exercise in relieving stress, and we want our students to remember this as part of a balanced, healthy, lifestyle.”
Munnerlyn students, faculty, and staff have the opportunity to participate for free in the Spartan Race being held in the Jacksonville area on February 24, and will hear from Spartan founder Joe de Sena as part of the HSW programming for the month. Families and friends of ESJ students will have the opportunity to register for the Spartan Race at a discounted rate.
