Word of the Year Inspires Goal Setting Among Students

Third – fifth grade students recently completed the book “One Word for Kids” with Ms. Trumpler, Media Specialist. The concept behind this book is to encourage children to choose a single word that represents a goal, aspiration, or value they want to embody throughout the year.  It asks the question, “Once you know your word, what do you do with it?” Students were given the opportunity to reflect on their word and create a word illustration in art class. Words ranged from “analyst” and “study” to “confident”, “faith” ,“artistic” and “athletic.” “I was inspired by how many words naturally centered around ESJ’s four pillars (arts, athletics, academics, and spiritual life),” said Bebe Alexander, Art Instructor. Selected artwork will be on display in the Steve Williams Library and Learning Center to inspire others.
