“Reading with Rosie” Program Builds Literacy Skills Among Students

Thanks to a new therapy dog on campus, kindergarten – second grade students have the opportunity to improve literacy fluency and confidence in partner or small group reading sessions. Parents may elect for their child(ren) to read aloud to Rosie, a nine-year-old Labrador Retriever, certified with Pet Partners.

“Pets are loving, non-judgmental listeners who are ideal confidence boosters for children learning to read,” said Bridgett Stroud, Learning Specialist, St. Mark’s Campus. “As educators, anything we can do to make reading and learning fun and stress-free is a win!”

Rosie will be on campus each Monday to lend students a friendly paw in their journeys with reading. View photos here.
