First Grade Project Takes Audience “Under the Sea”
First graders recently presented their studies of sea animals for their families and peers by transforming the Lori Schiavone Commons into an underwater ocean experience. Each student selected a sea animal and then researched its features, habitats, life cycles, food chains, and interesting facts. They created a script using their facts and illustrated pictures to accompany their information.
Students worked with Ms. Chitwood, Innovation Teacher, to create a video slideshow, which was showcased at the presentation. Other classroom projects included writing clever “house rules,” haiku and diamante poems about their sea animals. In Art with Mrs. Alexander first graders made seahorse artwork as well as a beautiful clay jellyfish. At home, students created a shoebox diorama depicting their creature’s habitat.
