Music for a Cause Selected as 2021-2022 School Sponsored Club
Music for a Cause, selected to be this year’s Episcopal-sponsored student club, is a Middle School and Upper School community service club. Through song, the club is dedicated to brightening the lives of others in the Episcopal and Jacksonville communities. With more than 50 students, Music for a Cause brings together students with a passion for music and service.
During semester 1, participants focus their efforts to prepare for the Songs For Souls Caroling Tour, where the group travels to select locations around Jacksonville to spread Christmas joy and festive enthusiasm. All benefits raised from the annual Caroling Tour are donated to a charity organization collectively selected by Music for a Cause members. Beloved by many, this tour is an opportunity for members to raise awareness and funds for a particular cause.
The club’s semester 2 program is Songbird Music Therapy. With Songbird, participants embark on a journey to help Alzheimer’s and other dementia patients residing in memory care facilities. Over many months, Songbird program participants undergo extensive training with the Alzheimer’s Association, where they learn interview/interaction techniques, dementia basics, and sensitivity training. Following training, students are partnered with a memory care facility resident and put music therapy knowledge into action.
Music for a Cause is glad to be selected as this year’s Episcopal-sponsored club and hopes to use this as an opportunity to grow, bolster its programs, and make a larger impact within the community.
