College Counseling Beyond the Basics: College Tours Panel
College Counseling in partnership with the Parentās Association hosted College Counseling Beyond the Basics: College Tours on Thursday. The panel comprised of three seniorsāCooper Lindsey, Scotty Montgomery, and Trish Kasierski, and two parents: Angie Lindsey and Cathy Kanaday. The panel addressed best practices for researching schools, using social media in the college search, what to look for and what to avoid when taking an in-person tour and how to best utilize virtual campus visit options.
The panel agreed that visiting a variety of schools can help students hone in on what they want and donāt want in a college. āVisiting colleges is a learning experience. Even if you think you already know a lot about a school, there is so much to learn that you donāt know,ā said Trish Kasierski.
Scotty Montgomery, who has done all of her research virtually shared with the group: āIt is important to be organized. I utilized spreadsheets, had a list of questions I asked every admission officer and/or student panel, and kept track of their responses to help me in refining my list.ā
āBefriend your tour guide to get more personal responses to the things that matter most to you,ā said Cooper Lindsay.
The session was recorded for students and parents unable to attend the session. Please email Stephanie Schuster atĀ [email protected]Ā for a link to the recording.
