Chaplains’ Post-Election Prayer
Gracious God, we have awoken today to uncertainty when we hoped to find answers and a clear vision of the future of this nation. What we are experiencing today is unlike anything many of us have ever experienced. Tension, anxiety, confusion, and disappointment are just some of the words we might use to describe what we feel right now. Many of us are simply weary of this long and stressful time in the life of our country and our world, weary of a year that has challenged our patience in many ways.
Inspire in us an attitude of gracefulness toward each other today. Make us aware of the unspoken concerns and worries that might be on the hearts of those around us. Help us to place our own anxious hearts in your loving hands so that you can carry us through this day and all the days ahead, whatever they may bring. Keep our minds focused not on ballot counts and what-ifs but on our faith in your goodness and love for us and gratitude for the many ways you sustain and enrich our lives. While we labor and toil and hope and fret over earthly anxieties, strengthen us to live first and foremost in the kingdom for which you made us that everything we do here on earth may give glory to you; through your son Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
