Tabitha Hung '22 Wins Bryan Library's Reader-of-the-Year Award

by Lori Sackman, Director of Library Services

Three hundred and sixty-five books. . . that’s how many books Tabitha Hung ’22 has read (so far) from the Bryan library collection since school started in August! This number doesn’t include those books she has read for her classes. It also doesn’t include books she has checked out from the public library or books she has purchased. Needless to say, Tabitha LOVES to read!

And because of her voracious appetite for all things literary, Tabitha earned the Bryan Library’s Reader-of-the-Year award. For her efforts, she received the newly-released, First Edition copy of Finale, the third installment in the Caraval series by Stephanie Garber. Since the award’s inception, no student has come close to this staggering stat.

Drawn to science fiction and fantasy, Tabitha reads a little (a lot) of everything. This year, three of her favorites were Circle of Shadows by Evelyn Skye, Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin, and Scythe by Neal Shusterman. When we asked her what her least favorite book was, she replied, “I don’t want to do that to a book!”

Her smile broadens and her eyes dance when she’s talking about a good book. “It [reading] opens you to a lot of new worlds. You learn SO much. It puts into words . . . when you can’t phrase something right, you read something and it’s like. . . YEAH!”

Congratulations, Tabitha! Try not to finish your Summer Reading before school’s out!
