Fine Arts Instructor Rebecca Hoadley Wins Guardian Award

At Senior Honors Convocation Friday morning, Fine Arts instructor Rebecca Hoadley was named the 2018 Guardian Award winner. Ms. Hoadley was nominated by senior Sophie Grimsley.

The Guardian Gift was created by Bill and Theresa Dahl to honor an Episcopal teacher or staff member whose mentoring and positive influence has made a lasting impact on a student. Graduating seniors are invited to write an essay about their ā€œGuardianā€ teacher and why he or she deserves to be honored. The winning student and the teacher he or she has nominated split a cash award.Ā

Of Ms. Hoadley, Sophie wrote in her two page nomination: “Ms. Hoadley distinguishes herself from the other teachers at Episcopal because she goes out of her way to make every student welcome. Even if they do not take art class, her door is always open. She is a fantastic educator. Not only does she make learning these new [art] techniques fun, she has fun teaching them….She gives us knowledge that we can use after we graduate from high school, and even after we graduate from college….It is impossible to capture in just a few words the environment of support and love that Ms. Hoadley cultivates…She taught me that I could have a range of talents, and pushed me to completely embrace the idea of being a multi-faceted person who loves science, and yes, the arts, too.”
