AP Draw, Paint, Print Senior Spotlight Interview: Taylor Logan
The AP Drawing Portfolio is an intensive course, requiring students to produce art at the college level. Students compile a portfolio of 24-29 original artworks demonstrating mastery in composition, technique, and concept. 12 of those pieces explore a common idea, called a concentration.
Taylor Logan is a creative and detailed artist. Her work is thoughtfully exploring the juxtaposition of people and things to create imagery that is shocking and beautiful. She has always loved art, and always enjoyed drawing. Ever since she could hold a pencil, she has been observing and drawing from life and imagination.
Q: Taylor, what is the central idea of your concentration?
My concentration focuses on the human opinion of what’s attractive and what is appalling. My question for the viewer is, “If an image is unsettling yet captivating, doesn’t that mean it’s beautiful?” I hope to create pieces that are so different from what is expected, that people are drawn to them from curiosity and wonder, asking why it was done and what the story is behind the piece.
