Students Meet Notable Children’s Book Author

Renowned author Sue Fliess visited Beaches and St. Mark’s Campuses this week, tailoring presentations by age group. She discussed her career as an author, working with illustrators around the world, and how she develops story ideas. The author delved into rhyming and poetic meter using interactive activities, and examples from books and songs.  She completed each session by reading one of her books and answering questions.

The author of dozens of children’s books including the Beatrice Bly’s Rules for Spies series, Sadie Sprocket Builds a Rocket, Goldilocks and the Three Engineers, the Kid Scientist series, and Little Golden Books, Fliess has been featured on Reading Rainbow Live and has books translated into many languages. Two of her books have been selected for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

“I didn’t become an author until I was 30,” said Fliess. “I didn’t have an author come to my school to tell me it was a possibility!

In addition to speaking with students, Fliess brought signed copies of her books pre-ordered by students. Each campus library also has copies of her books available for checkout.
