Spring Varsity Teams Win District, Regional Competitions, Head to States
Episcopal’s spring Varsity sports teams’ wins have extended their seasons well into post season play the last few weeks. “It has been great to see the hard work of our coaches and student-athletes pay off with strong spring seasons. Success at the Varsity level comes with much hard work, off-season training and sacrifice. I appreciate the commitment of our families and coaches to our athletic programs that is so important in their success,” said Director of Athletics Andy Kidd ’99.
Girls Lacrosse was ranked number seven in the state, won the district championship, and advanced to the final eight of the state tournament. Boys Lacrosse was ranked in the top 20 in the state, earned district runner-up, advanced to the final 16 of the state tournament. Softball continues an incredible season ranked eighth in the state, and heads into the district tournament this week as the #1 seed. Boys Tennis earned district champion, regional champion, and advanced to state quarterfinals, while Girls Tennis won the District Championship and finished the season as the Regional runner-up. Girls Track and Field won the district championship and the team (boys and girls) advanced 21 athletes to the regional meet at UNF this week. Weightlifting advanced six weightlifters to the region meet. Rower Bradlie Hicks ’23 won the scholastic state championship in the single at the sculling state championships in Sarasota; Girls Varsity Four won the scholastic state championship for the third year in a row; Girls 2nd Varsity Four won for the second year in a row; Boys 2nd Varsity four won for the second year in a row as well. ESJ sailors earned enough points during the regular season to advance to the district championship race in Wrightsville, NC.
In addition, Boys Basketball Coach and Program Director Chip Stroud was named FACA (Florida Athletics Coaches Association) district coach of the year and Krista Grabher was named the North Florida Coach of the Year by USA Lacrosse.
