Veterans Day Hero Wall Provides Learning Opportunity for Students
In commemoration of Veterans Day, St. Mark’s Campus families, faculty, and staff recently contributed photos and biographical information of loved ones who serve or have served in the United States military. Submissions were prominently displayed on a “hero wall” throughout the week of Veterans Day. Students had multiple opportunities to read about and see the many men and women who have protected and defended America.
“The Hero wall is an excellent opportunity for students to conceptualize historical information while honoring those, past and present, in our school community who have served,” said Beville Anderson, Head of Lower School, St. Mark’s Campus.
In addition to visiting the hero wall, kindergarten – grade 5 students participated in a Veterans Day Chapel. Captain Bob Kidd, U.S. Navy (retired) and Lieutenant Worth McArthur ’04, U.S. Navy (retired), were welcomed as guest speakers. In addition to speakers, the service included patriotic hymns and a flag raising ceremony on Baker Green by the Navy Color Guard.
