Field Trips Enrich and Expand Curriculum

The Beaches Campus has welcomed back field trips for the 2021-2022 school year. Field trips provide an experience that both enriches and expands the curriculum, strengthens observation skills by immersing students into sensory activities, increases students’ knowledge in a particular subject area and expands studentsā€™ awareness of their own community.

Fourth students recently visited the Cummer Museum where they learned about the Black artists of Florida and saw abstract art, bronze sculptures, murals, and landscapes. Both ESJ Lower School third grade classes visited Fort Caroline last week. The students learned about the Timucua Native Americans and the explorers who first came to Jacksonville, rode the ferry and visited Kingsley Plantation.

And recently, both Pre-K 3 and 4 visited Celestial Farms to provide a hands-on experience, which reinforced the thematic unit the children are working on in the classroom.

ā€œField trips enable students to build on classroom instruction, gain real-life experiences, and build cultural understanding,ā€ said Jennifer Ketchum, Head of Lower School, Beaches Campus.
