Director of Student Services Attends SAIS Conference
Amy Burrows Perkins ’92, Director of Student Services, recently attended the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS) Summer Conference Session. Presenters offered great information and ideas on how to successfully transition back to school, not just after a summer off, but after a year influenced deeply by COVID. “The opportunity to enjoy in-person professional development in North Carolina last month provided a breath of fresh mountain air and a reminder of how natural (and missed) it has been to learn and network with independent school colleagues in the same room – and not just on the same screen,” said Amy. “A big takeaway was that the effects of last year aren’t all in the rear view mirror. Similarly, we cannot just adopt everything we put on hold as a priority for 2021-2022. Balance, patience, and a shared vision for the year will benefit all of us.” The presenters also shared specific tools for decision-making related to prioritizing and the return to school. “I look forward to sharing those with leadership and adopting them in the Student Services Department,” said Amy.
