Honors Science Students Continue Projects Despite COVID Complications

Munnerlyn Campus Honor Science students are continuing their work on their research projects this semester, despite the COVID pandemic causing complications with university research opportunities.

“Students in Honors Science Seminar have embraced many interesting, complex, and timely projects this year,” said Marion Zeiner, Director of Scientific Research. “Most students are conducting their investigations at home, in the field, and at ESJ.”

Some students were able to continue working in and with laboratories at the following locations:

• University of North Florida Physics Department
• University of North Florida Chemistry Department
• Central Michigan University
• Seal Shield, Orlando, FL

This year Honors Science students’ project topics include:

• UV radiation on eye development
• Nanoparticle treatment on cell stem growth
• Robotic manipulation of objects
• Engineering neuromuscular electrical stimulation
• Pesticide resistance
• Novel approach to water analysis
• Links between online learning and student progress
• Combinatorial effects of lead nitrate and dibutyl phthalate
• Concrete for the colonization of Mars
• Eradication of mites on bee hives
• ElectroClave UV-C disinfection
