Middle and Upper School Students Receive Civil Discourse Training

On Wednesday Middle and Upper School students participated in Civil Discourse training as part of the school’s Health, Safety, and Well-Being program. Students watched a video created by the Civil Discourse team featuring students and teachers.

The short video asked Episcopal students about their perspective on the difficulty of talking with others who have different opinions from you and then explained civil discourse and its importance. After the video, students discussed a civil discourse question related to social media.

This initiative is part of the AIR initiative working toward “Listening to All Voices.” “Since the goal of civil discourse is to listen well to each other in order to understand, we are seeking to create a culture where all members feel heard and have a sense of belonging,” said Emily Farmer, Civil Discourse Committee team member and history instructor.
