A Lesson in Citizenship: Fourth Grade Students Witness 50 People Become U.S. Citizens

Fourth grade students recently had an unforgettable experience at the Federal Courthouse as they witnessed a Naturalization Ceremony where 50 individuals from 30 countries became U.S. citizens. They also engaged in a Q&A session with the presiding judge and took a sample citizenship test. Students were amazed by the depth of knowledge required to become a U.S. citizen and gained a newfound appreciation for the process. One student reflected, “It was special because all these people went through so much work to become a citizens. It shows just how great our country is.” Another added, “They have been through really hard things.” During their visit, students also had the opportunity to meet with U.S. Marshals, federal law enforcement officers who enforce federal laws and the justice system.
