Three Head to International Science Fair, 13 to State Fair

Congratulations to the Episcopal science research students who recently competed in the Northeast Florida Regional Science and Engineering Fair at Jacksonville University. Alexander Chindris ’25, James Steffes ’26, and Caden Lipari ’27 were selected to represent the region at the International Science Fair in Columbus, Ohio, where they will compete with 1,800 students from 75 different countries for $9 million in prizes, scholarships, and internships. Blaire Massey ’27 was named an alternate to that prestigious event. At the Regional Fair, ESJ students were recipients of $1,900 in cash, prizes, a summer internship, and a full-tutition college scholarship. Thirteen Episcopal students were named to compete at the State Science Fair of Florida in Lakeland.

The winners include: Grace Massey ’25, Alzheimer’s disease; Parthiv Reddy ’25, treatment of renal cancer; Evelyn Carroll ’27, increasing vitamin D levels in kale; Blaire Massey, growth of lettuce with red worms; Christian Lee ’26, increasing the hardness of teeth; Alex Chindris and James Steffes, wide-area object identification with drones; Elizabeth Butterfield ’25, predicting mangrove locations; Caden Lipari, heat adaptation of coral; Payton Marousky ’25, antibiotic-resistant bacteria; Alice Largen ’25, antibacterial cleaners; Lilly McCoy ’26, magnet treatments for seizures; Trey Morales ’26, regeneration of Planaria; Chase McCoy ’27, reflected light on plants; Elina Tursonoff ’26, excess fluoride; Lorenzo Montford Conway ’27, sunscreen on coral; and Auggie Strada ’26, hydrogen-fueled engine.
