Students, Faculty and Staff Reflect on “Word of the Year”
Fourth and fifth grade students recently read the book “One Word for Kids” with Mrs. Trumpler, Media Specialist. The book encourages children to choose a word representing a goal, aspiration, or value they want to embody throughout the year. It asks, “Once you know your word, what do you do with it?” After reading the book, students selected their words and created a word illustration in art class. Choices ranged from “faithful,” “kind,” and “empathy” to “athletic,” “bold,” and “determined.” Building on this theme, faculty and staff also had an opportunity to participate in this exercise.
“This is one of my favorite collaborative projects because it gets students thinking about their goals and what they hope to accomplish this year,” said Megan Trumpler, Media Specialist. “Having faculty and staff participate this year was also a fun, team-building experience.”
Selected student artwork will be displayed in the Steve Williams Library and Learning Center to inspire others. Pieces created by faculty and staff are on display in the faculty and staff workroom.
