St. Mark’s Faculty Enhance Skills with Summer Professional Development

This summer, St. Mark’s Campus faculty have participated in professional development relating to reading instruction, math, physical education, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education.

  • Learning specialists and instructors across multiple grade levels participated in Orton-Gillingham training presented by the Institute for Multi-Sensory Education. Orton-Gillingham breaks reading and spelling down into smaller skills involving letters and sounds and builds on these skills over time.

  • Jumpstart Singapore Math Training provided Instructors with strategies, number sense, model drawing, and curriculum information related to Dimensions Math. Instead of memorization, Dimensions Math encourages students to think mathematically and rely on knowledge gained in previous lessons.

  • Coach Tre, Physical Education Instructor, participated in Spark Physical Education Training. He learned strategies for encouraging healthy lifestyles and developing students’ motor skills, movement knowledge, and social and personal skills used using across Lower School.

  • Building upon Episcopal’s commitment to understanding and using Artificial Intelligence ethically and responsibly, Instructors participated in “Reimagining Assessment for Creative Thinking and AI.” This course investigated the relationship between creative thinking, AI, and how educators assess student work. Educators were encouraged to focus on the process and understand the steps students took to get to the final answer rather than evaluating just the end result.

“Summer offers teachers a well-deserved rest and time to recharge and reflect,” said Beville Anderson, Head of Lower School, St. Mark’s Campus. “We are grateful to many educators who dedicate part of their break to professional development, ensuring they return with new insights and skills. It is going to be a great school year!”
